Reading:
Students will read a variety of genre's including fiction and nonfiction. Students will be expected to analyze what they read, compare it to other texts and their world, and be able to write about it. Students will be expected to read 150 minutes per week and complete their reading HW. We will also continue vocabulary acquisition to improve reading and writing.

Writing:
We will write every day. We will analyze good writing, learn techniques to make writing better, and practice! Students will write response to literature, narrative, and research based pieces all year. We will focus on Opinion writing in the first and fourth quarters and informational writing in the second and third quarters.

Word Study:Students will be expected to use correct spelling at all times, or as is possible. The no excuse list below contains words they should've mastered by fourth grade. We will still work on these and many others in class. We will also study common word patterns, suffixes, prefixes, root words, and Greek & Latin roots.

Grammar:
Good grammar helps writers communicate more effectively. Understanding grammar helps readers determine meaning as they read. Between the two of these, grammar is key to improving literacy skills. We will study parts of speech, punctuation, innovative uses of language, and sentence types.
